About the university: The Institute of International Development at the University of Port Harcourt was established in 2010. Based in the Rivers State of Nigeria, the objective of the institute is to address the observed related capacity gaps in trade policy responses in Nigeria and Africa.
Areas of expertise: The main areas of research include multilateral trading system, international economic law, finance for development, and the economics of international trade and development finance.
Courses offered: The University of Port Harcourt offers two graduate programs: a Master’s in International Trade and Development, and a Doctorate in Trade and Development Finance. The Master's program features courses in microeconomic analysis, international trade theory, trade negotiations, regional development planning, entrepreneurship, development finance, and the history of African trade. The doctorate builds on the Master's program, offering courses in advanced microeconomic theory, African trade and the global economy, regional economic integration, and topics in international trade financing.
