About the university: The Jigjiga University, the only university in the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia, was established in 2007, following policy of the Ethiopian government to provide access to higher education to all its citizens. JJU has eight faculties and more than thirty departments.
Areas of expertise: JJU has carried out research in areas related to development. Given the fact that the university is located in one of the underdeveloped regions of the country, significant focus has been given on research that may improve the livelihood of the societies in the region. Moreover, as the main livelihood of the people in the region is pastoral activity, the focus of most researches by the university has been on this area.
Courses offered: International trade law, investment law, intellectual property law, employment and labour law, tax law, environmental law and law of traders and business organization. Courses offered by the faculty of Business and Economics include development Economics I, Investment Opportunities in Ethiopia, Development Economics II, Natural Resource and Environmental Economics, Economics of Industry, Labour Economics, International Trade I, International Trade II, Economics of Agriculture, Development Planning.
