Building knowledge for trade and development

The Faculty of Law of Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) invites Vi members to participate in the First Maputo International Conference on Regional Integration and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Law scheduled for April 23-25.

The conference, organized in partnership with the SADC Secretariat and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Mozambique, is part of the faculty’s programme on Regional Integration and SADC issues, which represents a landmark pilot project designed and developed with the objective of facilitating the mainstreaming of regional integration and SADC policies in Mozambique.

The forthcoming regional integration process within SADC member countries entails considerable advantages and benefits for public and private sector and institutions, as well as for the civil society and academia. This initiative can enable states in the region to achieve, through trade cooperation and common regional infrastructures, higher standards of well being for the populations.

The regional integration process represents also a positive ally for poverty eradication, in particular for Mozambique. The Eduardo Mondlane University has been working on this issue and is taking a lead in various initiatives aimed at the capacity building for the effective implementation of the SADC regional integration agenda. However, it entails crucial challenges which need to be addressed through public awareness, research, knowledge development, capacity-building initiatives, publication and dissemination of materials focusing on regional integration.

As we highly value your respective institution’s wide experience, achievements and dedication for the promotion of teaching, research and capacity building projects, we are seeking your cooperation as an institutional partner for this project and we would be most grateful if you could kindly consider participation in our forthcoming conference.

Should you be willing to make a presentation, please feel welcome. This is an opportunity to share with us your insights and experience on the challenges related to the role of higher education institutions in regional integration.
