Video-conference on e-commerce with Russian affiliate member

The video-conference was the first to be held with Vi affiliate member, the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), although students from the university have in the past participated in video-conferences for Russian member universities of the Vi network. The presentation lasted over an hour and a half and included time for discussion and many questions from the students.

Swiss centre offers summer course discount to Vi members

The World Trade Institute (WTI), a center of advanced interdisciplinary research and teaching in international trade law and economics, will hold its seventh summer academy July 13 to August 14 in Berne.

The centre, based at the university of Berne, is currently applying for Virtual Institute membership and encourages colleagues in the network to apply for admission into this session's courses. Vi members will receive a 25% discount off tuition and fees.

Vi partner trains trainers at Ugandan university member

Virtual Institute partner, the International Trade Centre (ITC), in partnership with Vi university member, Makerere University Business School (MUBS), conducted a workshop on ITC's market analysis tools January 19-22.

The ultimate goal of the workshop was to train academics, trade professionals and policymakers on the use of the online tools so that they may in the future become national trainers themselves.

Vi members join in North-South FTA course

The recent collaboration between the Shridath Ramphal Centre of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Centre for Trade Policy and Law (CPTL ) of Carleton University is an example of what VI members can accomplish because of the relationship.

The joint trade negotiating skills course took place February 23-26, and included 20 students from the Masters in International Trade Policy offered by the Shridath Ramphal Centre and three students from Canada.

Update from Senegal on Master's Programme

For the school year 2008-2009, important innovations have been undertaken in order to strengthen the Master's on International Trade Policy and Negotiations offered by the University of Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar.

In addition to the regular course of studies, the programme launched an evening capacity building programme for professionals.

Videoconference on TDR links Colombia and UNCTAD

Joint project goes into the field

Since July 2008 Foreign Trade University (FTU) in Vietnam and EAFIT University in Colombia have been working in an UNCTAD joint research project on the coffee industry.

This particular project is titled "Coffee, Cooperation and Competition: A comparative study between Colombia and Vietnam," and it compares these two major coffee export-oriented countries in terms of infrastructure, players, technology, added value, positioning at domestic and global markets, internationalisation patterns and regulatory frameworks.
