About the university: Located in Nsukka, the University of Nigeria was legally endorsed in 1955 and opened its doors officially in 1960, becoming the first autonomous university of Nigeria.  Since its establishment, the number of students has increased from 200 to the current student population of 36, 000 students. The university comprises 14 faculties, two schools and three institutes, and counts with an academic staff of 1,700. It aims to deliver world-class education and knowledge and to become a globally competitive, research-focused university responsive to the needs of society.

Areas of expertise: UNN’s research covers a wide range of macroeconomic and trade issues, such as Economic Partnership Agreements, the ECOWAS common external tariff, foreign portfolio investment, exchange rates, and the links between trade policy, gender and poverty.

Courses offered: The Department of Economics proposes BSc. MSc. and PhD degrees in Economics, offering courses in macroeconomic policy, economics of international trade, foreign direct investment, multilateral trading system (WTO), regional/bilateral trade agreements, and trade and poverty, among others. Their post-graduate-programmes are designed to promote advanced training and research in Economics.
