altDr. Akinwumi Adesina, Vice-President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) gives an overview of the current agricultural situation in the continent and lists the measures required to unlock Africa’s growth and rural development.

Addressing UNCTAD's Trade Development Board's Panel on African food security: Lessons from the recent global food crisis, Adesina said agricultural trade barriers must be lowered and more official development assistance (ODA) allocated to African farming.

The main challenges include creating an African Consensus and developing a critical mass of resources and policies focused on smallholder farmers, he added.
