Video and multimedia

In this multimedia teaching resource, recorded during a Vi videoconference organized for Colombian affiliate member, Universidad EAN, Rashmi Banga, of UNCTAD's Division for Africa, Least Developed Countries and Special Programmes, presents the latest Economic Development in Africa Report (EDAR).

Banga begins with an overview of trade performance in African countries, highlighting that total intra-African trade reached USD 130.1 billion in 2011 -- more than 11 percent of all African trade in the year.

According to the EDAR "(i)ntra-African trade has enormous potential to create employment, catalyze investment and foster growth in Africa," provided that adequate policies encouraging private sector dynamism and a development approach to regionalism are adopted, she said.
