In this multi-language multimedia teaching resource, Rolf Traeger, Chief of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Section at UNCTAD, presents the findings of the 2014 The Least Developed Countries (LDC) Report, subtitled “Growth with Structural Transformation: A Post-2015 Development Agenda.”
LDCs are faced with a paradox of high economic growth but low performance in terms of human development as defined by the Millennium Development Goals. Traeger explains that in order to increase overall productivity, structural transformation within and between sectors is needed to reconnect economic and human development.
“Remember that the LDCs are the battleground on which the sustainable development goals will be won or lost,” Traeger said, emphasizing the need for better engagement in structural transformation by LDCs and enhanced investment and policy change by the international community.
