The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC) has donated US$500,000 to fund Virtual Institute activities in Latin America and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for the next two and a half years.
The UNCTAD Virtual Institute (Vi) and its sister programmes, the Course on Key International Economic Issues and TrainForTrade (TFT), are sad to announce the death of Brazilian professor, Mario Ferreira Presser, who throughout the years lent his invaluable expertise to the achievement of the programmes' goals.
Prof. Presser -- Mario, as he was known to us -- passed away on Wednesday, March 26, after battling cancer. He was 59.
Vi members are encouraged to submit papers for thee conferences recommended by our colleagues, Pierre Berthaud, of Pierre Mendès France University, and Sawkut Rojid, of the University of Mauritius.
The conferences, taking place in China, France and Belgium, address several issues of interest to the Vi membership, including foreign direct investment (FDI), regionalization, global governance and international financial system.
The Vi team has also compiled a list of journals proposed by members in Jordan, Russia, Argentina, and Kenya.
