About the university: The University of the Gambia, UTG, was established in 1999 by an Act of the National Assembly to respond to the country’s educational needs. The university started with 300 students and in 2006, today more than 2,000 students are enrolled in its nine schools. The campus is located in the largest city of the Gambia, Serrekunda. UTG aims to advance the learning and knowledge of the new generation of Gambian students by providing quality education.
Courses offered: The Department of Economics and Management, under the School of Business and Public Administration, offers a Bachelor's degree in Economics, which includes an extensive number of courses on money, banking and capital markets; international and environmental economics; development and industrial economics; and as agricultural and resource economics. The Department also offers courses in quantitative methods in economics. In addition, an MBA is offered through online distance-learning.
Areas of expertise: Currently, the Department of Economics and Management conducts research on foreign direct investment and regional trade agreements.
