About the university: The School is a member of the African Economic Research Consortium which has been training postgraduate students and members of staff in research methodologies, proposal writing, and other related skills. Furthermore, it has also benefited from its strong link with the World Bank Institute through distance learning and conducting of training on use of certain econometric programs such as WITS.
The School was identified by WTO Secretariat to train the English speaking African countries in Multilateral Trading Systems in preparation for WTO negotiations. Some members of staff are also active participants in WTO activities both in Kenya and outside. Since 2002, the School of Economics has been collaborating with World Trade Organization in organizing courses on Regional Trade Policy .
Areas of expertise: Academic staff in the School are currently actively involved in basic and applied economic research in a number of fields including: poverty, health care financing and policy, environment, industry, financial markets, social provisions, structural adjustment, and macroeconomic stabilization, labour issues, and inheritance.
Courses offered: The School of Economics offers Bachelors Degree in Economics; Bachelors of Economics and Statistics; MA in Economics; MA in Economic Policy Management and M.A. in Economics of Multilateral Trading Systems . It also offers courses on graduate and post-graduate level in International Economics.
