About the university: St Petersburg State University of Economics is the largest University of economics in St Petersburg and one of the biggest Universities in Russia. Its academic staff of about 3,000 professors and educators teaches a student body of 70,000. The University was established in 2013 by a merger of the St Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance, the St Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics, and the St Petersburg State University of Service and Economics. The University offers a large variety of curricula based on the three major specialization poles: economics; management; services and tourism. The St Petersburg State University of Economics has established partner relations with more than 100 Universities abroad enabling numerous student exchange programmes. It offers several double-degree programmes in economics and management at the bachelor and master level.

Areas of expertise: The department of International economic relations, with about 20 professors, provides the Master's diploma in International Economy.

The main research areas of the department are:

  • International trade and commodities markets;
  • World energy markets and Russia-EU energy relations;
  • Regional economic integration with particular focus on the Baltic Sea region studies and integration process within the Eurasian Economic Community;
  • International monetary policy;
  • International financial markets;
  • International corporate finance.

The  staff of the department actively participates in two flagship international conferences organized by the University each year: “Financial markets” and “Energetika of the XXIst century: economy, policy, ecology,” and takes part in scientific events in different countries.

Courses offered: The department offers courses in the domain of international economics and finance for bachelor, master and PhD level students. The courses offered include:

  • International economic relations;
  • International financial management;
  • International financial markets;
  • International acquisitions and financial strategies;
  • Actual problems of international business;
  • Russia’s role in international commodity markets;
  • International economic law;
  • Regulation of world energy markets;
  • Financial clauses of foreign economic contracts.
