About the university: The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was established in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organization to help professionalize the country's foreign trade management and increase exports by developing human resources; generating, analyzing and disseminating data; and conducting research. IIFT aims to be a catalyst for new ideas, concepts and skills for the internationalization of the Indian economy. In addition, it strives to be the primary provider of training and research-based consultancy in the areas of international business for the corporate sector, government and the student community. Lastly, it attempts to continuously upgrade its knowledge base to meet the requirements of the Government, trade and industry through both sponsored and non-sponsored research and consultancy assignments.
Areas of expertise: The institute specializes in trade and international business. It provides policy inputs on foreign trade to the government, and consultancy services to international organizations and other institutions. For this purpose, it has set up the Centre for WTO Studies, the Centre for Small and Medium Enterprises Studies, and the Centre for International Trade in Technology. Recent research outputs relate to trade in services, bilateral and regional trade and trade agreements (e.g. with Iran, Israel, Korea, Singapore, ASEAN), export potential of selected products, and investment flows.
Courses offered: IIFT provides a wide range of teaching programmes including an MBA (international business), as well as executive post-graduate diplomas in international marketing, industrial marketing, and capital and financial markets. To cater to the needs of international business executives and mid-career professionals, several of these programmes are also offered for online study.
