The Nordic Africa Institute, a research centre providing information about modern Africa to Nordic countries, invites African Vi members to apply for its African Guest Researchers’ Scholarship Programme.

The programme, based in Sweden, is directed at senior scholars in Africa engaged in research about the African continent, with a proven track record of extensive post-graduate research experiences.

Among the four topics on which applications and research proposals are invited is "Global trade and regional integration: African economies, producers and living conditions." Other topics include post-conflict transition, and political economy of displacement in Southern Africa.

The Institute provides air ticket, accommodation, subsistence allocation and an installation grant for a 2-3 month stay. The researchers admitted to the programme are expected to participate in public lectures at the Institute, and to make a lecture tour to at least one other Nordic country. They may also be invited to write a short article for the Institute's website.

Currently, Francis Matambalya from Vi's Core Member, University of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania, is one of two researchers working under this scheme at the Institute.

The deadline for applications is 1 April 2008.
