A partnership with academia

Building knowledge for trade and development

Government of Spain logoThe Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC) has donated US$500,000 to fund Virtual Institute activities in Latin America and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for the next two and a half years.

The contribution will finance professional development workshops, fellowships, staff exchanges and translation and localization of teaching materials. In addition it will make possible the appointment of new university members in beneficiary countries and in Spain.

Although the Vi counts with membership from four core universities from Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Chile) and four from LDCs (Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda), the network will be looking to include new members from Latin America, French-speaking Africa and Asia.

Activities for Latin American universities will focus on staff exchanges and research, including fellowships and joint research projects featuring the active participation of Spanish university members.

Activities for LDCs will emphasize capacity-building activities, including translation of teaching materials and regional and national professional development workshops.
