The Virtual Institute's Latin American joint project on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), funded by the Government of Spain, will present its findings on November 19 at a workshop co-organized with Vi Colombian member, EAFIT University.
Researchers from universities in Spain, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile will gather in Medellín to share the results of four of the five research papers included in the Spanish-sponsored project. The discussion will also count with the expertise of Anthony Miller, of UNCTAD's Division on Investment and Enterprise.
The morning session of the workshop, which focuses on CSR in Latin America, will be dedicated to academic discussion of the mining industry in Chile, the banana industry in Colombia, CSR practices in Uruguay and on new legislative initiatives in the region.
As part of the Vi's ultimate goal of linking research and policymaking, the afternoon session will involve government officials and representatives from the corporate, civil society and trade union sectors in a round-table discussion on "CSR and labour practices in the agriculture and extractive industries."
