A presentation on the UNCTAD World Investment Report 2009 took place on Wednesday, February 10. This is the second event this year that the Universidad Pontificia Católica del Perú (PUCP) has organized in collaboration with the UNCTAD Virtual Institute. On this opportunity, the organizers counted with the valuable support of the Ministry of External Relations, which hosted the videoconference.
Participants were welcomed by Ambassador Elard Escala, Executive Director of Economic Promotion; Waldo Mendoza, Chief of the Economics Department, and Alan Fairlie, PUCP's Vi member coordinator.
In Geneva, Nicole Moussa, of UNCTAD's Division on Investment and Enterprise, presented the findings of the report, and Elmer Schialer, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Peruvian mission in Geneva, contributed to the discussion.
In Lima, the event counted with commentary from Prof. José Tavera, Peter Anders, President of the Lima Chamber of Commerce, and Ambassador Escala.
All of them, in particular Minister Schialer, highlighted the fact that Perú remained an FDI recipient with positive growth rates in spite of a year of economic crisis as it was 2009.
Approximately 40 participants attended the videoconference. In addition to academics from PUCP, representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of External Relations, Proinversion and other leaders of the private sector also participated.
