Building knowledge for trade and development

altAlena Petrushkevich of Vi core member, Belarus State Economic University, and Michele Barbieri, of Italian member, Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi, have just published a joint article based on their research on foreign investment in Belarus.

The project first saw light during the 2009 Vi membership meeting, where the two researchers met.

"My particular interest in FDI in countries with economies in transition was enhanced by my participation in the Vi meeting, which gave me the possibility to interact with delegates from Russia and Belarus, who introduced me to the specificities of the investment and business climate in post-Soviet countries," said Barbieri, a teaching fellow at Bocconi's Department of Legal Studies.

The article examines the policy and legal frameworks governing foreign direct investments (FDI) in Belarus and their consistency with commitments undertaken by the country through bilateral trade agreements.

A scanned version of "Foreign investments in Belarus: Recent developments in regulatory issues," published by Diritto del Commercio Internazionale (4/2010; p. 791-819), has been made available to Vi members by its authors, with permission from the publishers.
