A partnership with academia

Building knowledge for trade and development

We have got very good news on the launching our new Master's program in English that became possible thanks to Vi efforts.

The Belarus State Economic University (BSEU) is now accepting applications for its first graduate programme in English, the Master's  in International Economics and Trade Policy, set to begin November 1.

The goal of the 18-month program is to train professionals with specialist skills and knowledge of international topics, such as WTO mechanisms, regional integration and trade policy implementation, apt to serve the country's government bodies and national enterprises.

The Vi has contributed a lot through its network activities and teaching resources, which will be used to teach many of the courses in the new programme. The teaching materials on macroeconomics, competitiveness, trade negotiations, trade policy analysis, commodities, trade and poverty, environmental economics, investment and regional trade agreements will provide the backbone for half of the planned curriculum.

Your encouragement and very good experience of some other universities from the network, Russia's St.Petersburg State University and China's University of International Business and Economics, influenced greatly our decision in favor of the program. The programme also received technical support from Vi partner, the World Trade Organization.

Our cooperation with the Vi also helped us to stay up to date on international issues and best practices in different aspects of economic development. Four of the principal professors have benefitted from training and fellowship opportunities arising from the network. Oksana Shkutsko and Katya Lisitsa participated in the UNCTAD regional course on Key Issues on the International Economic Agenda and in the online course legal aspects of international economic relations and regional integration led by Ramon Torrent of Vi core Spanish member, the University of Barcelona; Yulia Vashkevich,  Katya Lisitsa and I were awarded fellowships through Vi's German core member, HTW Berlin – University of Applied Sciences.

The cooperation with HTW was a great opportunity to develop the syllabus, the courses, and to master our teaching skills. We are very grateful to Prof. Jan Priewe and Prof. Sebastian Dullien personally for their inputs.

Applications for the first intake will be accepted until October 15.
