International Trade Centre (ITC)
ITC has been contributing to study tours to Geneva for students of Vi member universities and is an important partner in the joint UNCTAD-WTO-ITC project on applied trade and trade policy analysis initiated by the Vi which resulted in two inter-regional professional workshops on trade and trade policy analysis in Geneva (2006 and 2011). Vi has also been posting selected ITC publications on its website.
There is an agreement between the Vi and the South Centre following which the Vi has been posting relevant South Centre studies on the Vi website. The South Centre has also been contributing to Vi study tours to Geneva for students of Vi member universities.
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development
The Vi covers all trade and development issues dealt with by UNCTAD. It therefore regularly cooperates with colleagues from the different UNCTAD divisions. Such cooperation has involved experts from UNCTAD peer reviewing training material, articles and research by Vi members, as well participating in Vi events such as study tours, workshops and videoconferences, and providing mentoring for the Vi's fellowship programme.
United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)
UNECA staff contributed to three Vi professional development workshops for African countries on the economics of commodities production and trade (Dar es Salaam, January 2006; Dakar, 2006) and on natural resources and economic development (Dar es Salaam, July 2010). The Vi has been making available UNECA's papers and studies on trade issues on the Vi website.
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)
The Vi has an agreement with UNECE to post relevant UNECE studies on its website.
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)
The Vi and UNESCAP's ARTNeT (Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade) cooperate in building the capacity of researchers for trade and investment research. For instance, ARTNeT members attended Vi professional development workshops. Some of Asian academic institutions - members of ARTNet - have also become Vi members. Vi also makes available ARTNeT resources for researchers on its website and the two partners mutually promote one another's events and projects of interest to their respective audiences.
The World Bank has partnered with the Vi to share its analytical work with Vi members through its publication in the Vi digital library.
World Trade Organization (WTO)
The Vi has established a productive relationship with the WTO, in particular its Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation, and the Economic Research and Statistics Division. Eleven of the current fifteen universities-members of the WTO academic cooperation programme, the WTO Chairs Programme, are at the same time members of the Vi. The WTO has been contributing to the Vi's Geneva-based study tours, organized for post-graduate students of Vi member universities, and national professional development workshops on trade policy analysis. The Vi and the WTO also worked together to support trade-related Master's programmes at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the University of the West Indies. WTO is a major partner in a joint UNCTAD-WTO-ITC project on applied trade and trade policy analysis initiated by the Vi, which resulted in two inter-regional professional workshops on trade and trade policy analysis in Geneva (2006 and 2011) and a joint WTO-UNCTAD publication titled "A practical guide to trade policy analysis". WTO publications of interest to academia are made available on the site of the Vi.
